Bio:

Hank P. McConnel was born and raised in North Carolina, and learned his trade as a mechanic in his father’s repair shop. Eventually moving to New York City, he kept his good-ol’-boy sensibilities, savoring the simple things in life. Never the most romantic of men, Hank married his high-school sweetheart, but divorced a few years later.

Hank was living an uncomplicated life when the Rising occurred. Never one to give up, he doggedly fought his way to the Baxter building with the aid of a case of grenades that had fallen off a military transport. Along with the high-strung Sarge Martinez, the good-natured football jock Flash, and the independent locksmith Bert, Hank managed to locate a houseboat and get the small group clear of Manhattan. Since he was the only one who knew how to operate the houseboat, Hank dubbed himself Cap’n Hank.

Once they reached the survivor colony at Phoenix, Hank found his talents highly valued, and became the de facto head of the mechanics, repairmen, and other people capable of putting machinery together. Hank is not particularly comfortable in authority, but often acts as the voice of reason and does his best to help hold things together – both Phoenix itself, and his small band of Baxterites in particular.
